About PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Thermistors
PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Thermistors
PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) Thermistors are resistors that change resistance when the temperature surrounding it rises. It has two distinct properties which make it popular for use in consumer electrical and electronics. The first is its ability to self-regulate its temperature; when the temperature exceeds a certain point, the resistance of the thermistor rises, creating a temperature-dependent electrical current that can be used as a feedback loop to limit the current passing through it. The second is its ability to be used as a temperature switch; when the temperature surrounding reaches a certain threshold, the resistance of the thermistor will create an electrical current which can be used to activate a switch or relay.
