Motorola Counter Shift Registers

A counter shift register is an electronic component that sequentially stores data in a series of individual memory cells. It can be used to count the number of times a signal has been received, or to store data in a series of memory cells. The shift register stores a number of bits, known as a word, that can be accessed in sequential order by shifting its contents left or right. Each cell in the shift register is capable of storing one bit of data, which can be either a 0 or a 1, depending on the logic associated with the register. When the register is shifted, the next bit of data recorded is usually the bit from the most recently shifted cell. Counter shift registers are often used in digital circuitry for data manipulation and processing, as well as for generating various control signals.
