About Power Inverters
Tripp Lite Power Inverters
A power inverter is a device that takes direct current (DC) power from a battery, or other DC source, and converts it to alternating current (AC) power. It essentially acts as an electronic switch that turns power from a DC source into a form that can be used by the appliances and electronics in the home. Power inverters are typically used to run electrical equipment from the car cigarette lighter or from a battery that may be connected to a solar panel system. They are also used to convert AC power in order to provide power to a device that requires a different voltage, such as when connecting a device to a foreign voltage outlet. Power inverters can also be used in RV’s, boats, and other remote applications.
