About Sample & Hold Amplifiers
Sample & Hold Amplifiers
Sample & Hold amplifiers (S/H amplifiers) are specialized amplifiers designed to convert an analog waveform into a series of discrete values for use in digital systems. S/H amplifiers sample an analog waveform, hold each sample for a set duration, then convert the sampled waveform into a digital value. The most common use case for S/H amplifiers is data acquisition. By converting an analog waveform into a series of digital values, the waveform can be transmitted, stored, and analyzed by digital systems accurately. In addition to data acquisition, S/H amplifiers are used in analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). An ADC is a system that converts an analog waveform into a series of digital values. S/H amplifiers are used in ADCs as part of the front end, and are responsible for sampling, holding, and converting the waveform.
