Toggle switches are among the most basic, common, and familiar electrical components that people use and interact with in their day to day lives. Most people will use toggle switches in the form of light switches, but they’re also widely used in machinery, cars, and in various household devices.
How does a toggle switch work?
Toggle switches work by moving a set of contacts inside the switch. Depending on the position of the switch, the contacts will either be open or closed, allowing power to run through the circuit or preventing a circuit becoming complete.

Among other things, toggle switches can be used as light switches, for switching circuits within telecommunications systems, or in automobiles and aircraft for switching settings and controlling components such as lighting.

There is no difference between toggle switches and rocker switches in terms of the functions they perform. The difference comes in appearance, with rocker switches generally being flatter and more suited to a wider range of design styles, wherever they’re being used.
