3 PVC 1 3M 2151 Rubber Splicing Tape Product Description 3M 2151 Rubber Splicing Tape is a conformable, self-fusing rubber electrical insulating tape, manufactured from ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR). Suitable for applications up to 69kV. Product Features High insulation properties Excellent conformability Excellent sealing properties Excellent and fast self-bonding without blistering Excellent tensile strength and elongation allowing easy application Typical Properties Thickness (mm) 0.51 Colour Black Tensile Strength (Mpa) 1.7 Elongation (%) 700 Dielectric Breakdown (kV/mm) 28 Dissipation Factor (23C) 0.05 max Dielectric Constant / Permissiveness (23C) 4.0 max Insulation Resistance (M) 1014 Continuous Operating Temperature (C) 90 Emergency Overload Temperature (C) 130 Note: These are typical values and should not be used for specification purposes Applications Primary electrical insulation for splicing cable from 600V to 69kV. Moisture sealing electrical connections. End sealing high-voltage cables Electrical insulation for splices and terminations Page 1 of 2 Issue 1 Installation 3M 2151 Electrical Tape should be applied in successive half-lapped, level-wound layers until desired build-up is reached. To eliminate voids in critical areas, highly elongate the tape. Stretch the tape in these critical areas just short of its breaking point. Doing so will not alter its physical or electrical properties. In less critical areas, less elongation may be used. Normally, 2151 Tape is stretched to of its original width in these less critical areas. Always attempt to half-lap to produce a uniform build-up. When using 2151 Tape for splicing cables from 35kV to 69kV, always elongate the tape throughout the entire splice. Shelf Life / Storage 3M 2151 Tape has a five-year shelf life (from date of manufacture) when stored under the following recommended storage conditions. Keep the tape stored in its original packaging behind present stock in a clean, dry place, protected from sun light, at a temperature of 26C 32C, with relative humidity no more than 80%. Good stock rotation is recommended. Testing 3M 2151 Tape meets ASTM D4388 Standard Specification for Non-metallic Semi- Conducting and Electrically Insulating Rubber Tapes 3M and Scotchcast are trademarks of 3M Company Important Notice All statements, technical information and recommendations related to the Sellers products are based on information believed to be reliable, but the accuracy or completeness thereof is not guaranteed.
