ACT4060A Wide Input 2 A Step Down Converter ECN 26JUN09 t GENERAL DESCRIPTION FEATURES The ACT4060A is a current-mode step-down DC/DC 2 A Output Current converter that provides up to 2 A of output current at Up to 96% Efficiency 400kHz switching frequency. The device utilizes Active- 4.5 V to 24 V Input Range Semis proprietary high voltage process for operation with input voltages up to 24 V. 10 A Shutdown Supply Current The ACT4060A provides fast transient response and 400 kHz Switching Frequency eases loop stabilization while providing excellent line Adjustable Output Voltage and load regulation. This device features a very low ON- resistance power MOSFET which provides peak Cycle-by-Cycle Current Limit Protection operating efficiency up to 96%. In shutdown mode, the Thermal Shutdown Protection ACT4060A consumes only 10 A of supply current. Frequency Foldback at Short Circuit This device also integrates protection features including Stability with Wide Range of Capacitors, cycle-by-cycle current limit, thermal shutdown and Including Low ESR Ceramic Capacitors frequency fold-back at short circuit. SOP-8 Package The ACT4060A is available in a SOP-8 package and requires very few external devices for operation. This pin acts as the positive rail for the high-side switchs gate driver. Connect a 1 BS 10nF capacitor between BS and SW. Input Supply. Bypass this pin to G with a low ESR capacitor. See Input Capacitor 2 IN in the Application Information section. 3 SW Switch Output. Connect this pin to the switching end of the inductor. 4 G Ground. Feedback Input. The voltage at this pin is regulated to 1.293V. Connect to the resistor 5 FB divider between output and ground to set output voltage. Compensation Pin. See Stability Compensation in the Application Information 6 COMP section. Enable Input. When higher than 1.3V, this pin turns the IC on. When lower than 0.7V, 7 EN this pin turns the IC off. Output voltage is discharged when the IC is off. When left unconnected, EN is pulled up to 4.5V with a 2A pull-up current. 8 N/C Not Connected. Data Sheet Rev.
