Draconis
Alpha Draconis (or Thuban) is a star located in the constellation of Draocn. 1857-VI001 (or HD 187642) is a catalog designation for Alpha Draconis, as it was given to the star when it was first cataloged in 1857 by the German astronomer F.W.A. Argelander. Alpha Draconis is a triple star system, composed of two main components, A and B, and a high-eccentricity third companion, C. The Components A and B are both class A0V stars, and form a spectroscopic binary with an orbital period of 20.5 days. The third companion, C, is of spectral type F8, and has an orbital period of 136 days. Alpha Draconis is relatively close to Earth at a distance of 278 light-years, and is one of the brightest stars visible in the night sky.
