MAX14529E/MAX14530E 19-4459 Rev 0 2/09 Overvoltage Protection with USB Charger Detection, LDO, and ESD Protection on D+/D- General Description Features The MAX14529E/MAX14530E are overvoltage-protec- Input Voltage Protection Up to 28V tion devices with USB charger detection, a low-dropout High-Current USB Charger Detection (LDO) regulator, and ESD protection. These devices 3.3V, 100mA LDO feature a low 35m (typ) R internal FET switch and ON protect low-voltage systems against voltage faults up to Preset Overvoltage Protection Trip Level 28V. When the input voltage exceeds the overvoltage 5.75V (MAX14529E) threshold, the internal FET switch is turned off to pre- 6.8V (MAX14530E) vent damage to the protected components. Integrated Low R 35m (typ) FET Switch ON The charger detection detects a short between the USB Low-Capacitance USB High-Speed Data Line ESD D+ and D- data lines. If the data lines are shorted Protection (3pF) together and a dedicated charger is attached, the 15kV Human Body Model (HBM) phone draws more than 500mA to charge the battery. 15kV IEC 61000-4-2 Air Gap The overvoltage thresholds (OVLO) are preset to 5.75V 8kV IEC 61000-4-2 Contact (MAX14529E) or 6.8V (MAX14530E). Thermal-Shutdown Protection The LDO output (LOUT) is powered from OUT and sup- 12-Bump, 1.5mm x 2mm WLP Package plies 3.3V to the USB transceiver.
