MAX24001 2.5Gbps Tx Burst-Mode Laser Transceiver General Description Functional Diagram 2.5Gbps Limiting Receiver The MAX24001 is a complete burst-mode laser driver RX IN+ transmitter and limiting amplifier receiver for use RX OUT+ RX OUT- within fiber optic modules for FTTx applications. A RX IN- fully compliant GPON/GEPON module with digital LOS/SD diagnostics can be realized when used with a 2KB TX FAULT / DAC APD CTRL RSSI EEPROM and suitable optics. Alternatively, a ADC microcontroller can be used in conjunction with the SCL SLAVE TSENSE SDA SLAVE MAX24001 however, this is not a necessity in order TSENSE RET SCL MASTER to achieve SFF-8472 compliance. SDA MASTER SLEEP MPD The 2.5Gbps limiting receive path features TX DISABLE programmable output swing control, rate selection, BEN+ TX SD / BEN- TX FAULT and OMA-based loss-of-signal detection. Functions are also provided which facilitate the implementation BIAS of APD biasing without the need for an external DC- TX IN+ TX OUT+ DC converter. TX IN- TX OUT- The burst-mode laser driver has temperature 2.5Gbps Burst mode laser driver compensated modulation control using a lookup table. Closed-loop control of laser power incorporates Features tracking error compensation and has multiple options 2.5Gbps Limiting Receiver for rapidly settling the laser power thus enabling fast Integrated APD Bias Loop With Overvoltage registration and shutdown on the network. And Overcurrent Protection Diagnostics are enhanced with the inclusion of OMA-Based LOS Detection programmable transmit signal detection during 1.25Gbps to 2.5Gbps Laser Driver bursts, and rogue ONU detection between bursts. This is linked to a laser safety system which allows CML, LVPECL, HSTL, SSTL-Compatible the modulation and bias currents to be shut off in Inputs response to a range of different fault conditions Open and Closed-Loop Bias Control detected on-chip. Temperature-Compensated I Control MOD The transmit and receive systems are independently Highly Configurable Laser Safety System powered and can respond separately to the SLEEP Transmit TX SD and Rogue ONU Detection pin. The MAX24001 is highly configurable from either SFP MSA and SFF-8472 Digital Diagnostics EEPROM or low-cost MCU using a two-wire Integrated Temperature Sensor interface.
