MAX33045E/MAX33046E 20Mbps, Half-Duplex RS-485/RS-422 Transceivers with 40kV ESD Protection Benefits and Features General Description Integrated Protection Increases Robustness The MAX33045E/MAX33046E is a half-duplex RS- 485/422 transceiver that operates at either 3.3V or 5.0V o 25V Fault-Protection Range on Driver supply rail for ease of design. Both devices feature Outputs/Receiver Inputs enhanced protection for applications in harsh o High-ESD Protection environments. All driver outputs and receiver inputs are 40kV HBM ESD per JEDEC JS-001 protected with both high-fault and high-ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection. 15kV Air-Gap ESD per IEC 61000-4-2 The A/B lines have up to 25V fault protection for 10kV Contact ESD per IEC 61000-4-2 accidental shorts with local power supplies and 40kV o Short-Circuit-Protected Outputs ESD (Human Body Model) HBM protection. They are also rated up to 15kV Air-Gap Discharge and 10kV o True Fail-Safe Receiver Prevents False Contact Discharge per IEC 61000-4-2. Both features Transition on Receiver Input Short or Open ensure robust protection in harsh industrial Events environments. Drivers are short-circuit current limited o Hot-Swap Capability Eliminates False and protected against excessive power dissipation by Transitions on Receiver Input Shorts or Open thermal-shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs Events into a high-impedance state. The receiver input has a High-Speed Data Rates up to 20Mbps true fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic-high output if both inputs are open or short circuited. Enables up to 256 Nodes on the Bus The MAX33045E is rated for a 500kbps (min) data rate, Wide -40C to +125C Operating Temperature and the MAX33046E is rated for a 20Mbps data rate. Range Both devices are packaged in an 8-pin SOIC with an operating ambient temperature from -40C to +125C.
