MAX3861 19-2342 Rev 2 2/05 2.7Gbps Post Amp with Automatic Gain Control General Description Features The MAX3861 is a low-power amplifier with automatic Single 3.3V Power Supply gain control (AGC), designed for WDM transmission 72mA Supply Current systems employing optical amplifiers and requiring a vertical threshold adjustment after the post amp. 3.4GHz Small-Signal Bandwidth Operating from a single 3.3V supply, this AGC amplifier 0.26mV Input-Referred Noise RMS linearly amplifies/attenuates the input signal while main- taining a fixed output-voltage swing at data rates up to 6mV to 1200mV Input Range (46dB) P-P P-P 2.7Gbps. The input and output are on-chip terminated Input Signal Detect with Programmable Threshold to match 50 interfaces. This amplifier has a small-signal bandwidth of 3.4GHz RSSI (Linear Up to 100mV ) P-P and an input-referred noise of 0.26mV . Over an RMS Adjustable Output Amplitude input signal range of 6mV to 1200mV (46dB), the P-P P-P MAX3861 delivers a constant output amplitude 0.2dB Output Voltage Variation (Over 16dB Input adjustable from 400mV to 920mV . Variation in P-P P-P Signal Variation) output swing is controlled within 0.2dB over a 16dB input range. The MAX3861 provides a received-signal- strength indicator (RSSI) that is linear, within 2.5%, for input signal levels up to 100mV and an input signal P-P detect (SD) with programmable threshold.
