MAX7219/MAX7221 Serially Interfaced, 8-Digit LED Display Drivers General Description Features The MAX7219/MAX7221 are compact, serial input/ 10MHz Serial Interface output common-cathode display drivers that interface Individual LED Segment Control microprocessors (Ps) to 7-segment numeric LED Decode/No-Decode Digit Selection displays of up to 8 digits, bar-graph displays, or 64 individual 150A Low-Power Shutdown (Data Retained) LEDs. Included on-chip are a BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and Digital and Analog Brightness Control an 8x8 static RAM that stores each digit. Only one Display Blanked on Power-Up external resistor is required to set the segment current for Drive Common-Cathode LED Display all LEDs. The MAX7221 is compatible with SPI, QSPI, Slew-Rate Limited Segment Drivers and MICROWIRE, and has slew-rate-limited segment for Lower EMI (MAX7221) drivers to reduce EMI. SPI, QSPI, MICROWIRE Serial Interface (MAX7221) A convenient 4-wire serial interface connects to all 24-Pin DIP and SO Packages common Ps. Individual digits may be addressed and updated without rewriting the entire display.
