EVALUATION KIT AVAILABLE MAX77829 Companion PMIC for Smartphone and Tablet General Description Benefits and Features The MAX77829 is a high-performance companion PMIC Highly Integrated Solution for latest 3G/4G smartphones and tablets. The PMIC Single Input Switched Mode Charger includes a single-input 2.0A switched-mode charger with Camera Flash and Torch LED Driver, Dual-Channel reverse-boost capability and adapter input protection 750mA/ch up to 22V (DC) for one-cell Lithium-Ion (Li+) battery, a Two-String White LED Backlight Driver, 25mA/ch, safeout LDO, and WLED backlight driver supporting up to 35V OVP 25mA/string, 35V output voltage. It also features a dual- One Safeout LDO channel 1.5A (combined, 750mA/CH) Flash LED driver Single High Efficient Switched Mode Charger (with Torch Mode included). Supporting Up to 2.0A Charging Current Capability The typical 4MHz switched-mode battery charger with Input-Voltage-Based Automatic Input Current Limit two integrated switches, providing the smallest L/C size, (AICL) Power Management lowest heat and fastest programmable battery-charging System Voltage Regulator/Battery Charger with current, is ideally suited for portable devices such as External Power Path headsets and ultra-portable media players. The char- Various Charging Protection Features ger features single input, which works for adapter/USB Single Input Accommodating Standard USB and High type inputs. All the MAX77829 blocks connecting to the Input Voltage Adaptor adapter/USB pin are protected from input overvoltage 22V Absolute Maximum Input Voltage Rating, events. The DC pin is rated to 22V absolute maximum. up to +9.4V Maximum Operating Input Voltage The USB-OTG output provides true-load disconnect and USB OTG Capability is protected by an adjustable output current limit (default Reverse Boost Support, Up to 900mA at +5V 900mA, other current limit is also available with different Programmable Reverse Boost Output Voltage factory setting up to 900mA). (Up to 5.8V) The battery charger drives an external p-channel MOSFET Flexible Programmability 2 as power-path switch, and its I C-programmable settings 2 I C 2.0 Serial Interface can accommodate a wide range of battery sizes and Compact Package system loads. When configured in reverse boost mode, the MAX77829 requires no additional inductor to power 3.64mm x 3.24mm WLP, 8 x 7 Array, 56-Bumps, 0.4mm Pitch USB OTG accessories and/or provide illumination to the Flash LED. Applications The switching charger implements a special CC, CV, Smartphone and Tablets and die temperature regulation algorithm the patented Other Li-Ion Battery Power Handheld Devices MaxFlash prevents overloading a weak battery, further extending battery life. 2 Ordering Information appears at end of data sheet. The MAX77829 features an I C 2.0-compatible serial interface consisting of a bidirectional serial data line (SDA) and a serial clock line (SCL). 19-8316 Rev 1 10/16MAX77829 Companion PMIC for Smartphone and Tablet Absolute Maximum Ratings DC, BYP to GND ...................................................-0.3V to +22V WLEDGND, WLEDPGND to GND ........................ -0.3V to 0.3V LX, BST to GND ....................................................-0.3V to +12V WLEDPWM to GND ............................... -0.3V to (V + 0.3V) SYS CS, SYSS, SYS, AVL, PVL, FET DRV, WLEDLX Continuous Current .......................................1.2A RMS MBATT, IN FLED, CHGIND to GND ...................-0.3V to +6V VIO to GND .............................................................-0.3V to +6V MBATSNSP, MBATSNSN, MBATDET, SDA, SCL to GND ................................... -0.3V to (V + 0.3V) VIO THM to GND ........................................................-0.3V to +6V MRST, RESET, INT to GND ................-0.3V to (V + 0.3V) SYS A INOK to GND .......................................... -0.3V to (V + 0.3V) TEST , VCCTEST, SYS to GND ..........................-0.3V to +6V SYS LX, CHGPG Continuous Current .....................................2A GND to GND ......................................................-0.3V to +0.3V RMS DC, BYP Continuous Current ...........................................2A Continuous Power Dissipation (T = +70C) RMS A FLED to GND ......................................... -0.3V to (V + 0.3V) WLP (derate 25mW/C above 70C) .........................2000mW BYP TORCHEN, FLASHEN to GND ...........-0.3V to (V + 0.3V) Operating Temperature ...................................... -40C to +85C SYS A FLED1, FLED2 Current .................................................0.8A Junction Temperature ......................................................+150C RMS SAFEOUT to GND ................................... -0.3V to (V + 0.3V) Storage Temperature Range ............................ -65C to +150C DC SAFEOUT Continuous Current ........................................100mA Soldering Temperature (reflow) .......................................+260C WLEDOUT, WLED1, WLED2 to GND .................. -0.3V to +36V Stresses beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device.
