MAX8660/MAX8660A/MAX8660B/MAX8661 19-0587 Rev 3 6/10 High-Efficiency, Low-I , PMICs with Dynamic Q Voltage Management for Mobile Applications General Description Features The MAX8660/MAX8661 power management ICs Optimized for Marvells PXA300 and Armada 100 (PMICs) power applications processors (APs) in smart Family of Processors cellular phones, PDAs, Internet appliances, and other Protected to 7.5VShutdown Above 6.3V portable devices. Four Synchronous Step-Down Converters Four step-down DC-DC outputs, three linear regulators, REG1, REG2, REG3, REG4 and an 8th always-on LDO are integrated with power- Four LDO Regulators management functions. Two dynamically controlled DC- REG5, REG6, REG7, REG8 DC outputs power the processor core and internal mem- ory. Two other DC-DC converters power I/O, memory, 2MHz Switching Allows Small Components and other peripherals. Additional functions include on/off Low, 20A Deep-Sleep Current control for outputs, low-battery detection, reset output, 2 and a 2-wire I C serial interface. The MAX8661 functions Low-Battery Monitor and Reset Output the same as the MAX8660, except it lacks the REG1 Ordering Information step-down regulator and the REG7 linear regulator. All step-down DC-to-DC outputs use fast 2MHz PWM PART PIN-PACKAGE OPTIONS switching and tiny external components. They automati- cally switch from PWM to high-efficiency, light-load V 1: 3.3V, 3. 0V, 2.85V operation to reduce operating current and extend bat- V 2: 3.3V, 2. 5V, 1.8V MAX8660ETL+ 40 Thin QFN tery life. In addition, a forced-PWM option allows low- V 3: 1.4V ( d efault) noise operation at all loads. Overvoltage lockout pro- V 4: 1.4V ( d efault) tects the device against inputs up to 7.5V. V 1: 3.3V, 3. 0V, 2.85V Applications V 2: 3.3V, 2. 5V, 1.8V MAX8660ETL/V+ 40 Thin QFN V 3: 1.4V ( d efault) PDAs, Palmtops, and Wireless Handhelds V 4: 1.4V ( d efault) Smart Cell Phones Personal Media Players Note: All devices are specified over the -40C to 85C operating Portable GPS Navigation Digital Cameras temperature range. +Denotes lead(Pb)-free/RoHS-compliant package. /V denotes an automotive qualified part.
