GENERAL NOTES Use these notes when setting up to test any testable CRT. These notes are applicable to all B&K Precision CRT Tester/Rejuvenators, and for all tube types in this Setup Chart. 1. The 490B use CA adapters. There are some tubes that do not have CA adapters available. In these cases a CR adapter can be used on a 490B with the use of a CC-12 cable adapter. 490B users will need the CC-12 adapter cable when using the CR-XA Universal Adapter. 2. Set G1 to 50 V, Except for CRTs marked with ( ), set G1 to 100 V CRTs marked with (*), set G1 to 70 V CRTs marked with (**), set G1 to 30 V CRTs marked with ( ), 467 & 490 set G1 to 30V, 470 & 480 set G1 to 20V 3. CRTs marked with ( ), Red and Green guns interchanged (test Red gun with Green controls, and vice versa.) CRTs marked with ( ), Red and Blue Guns interchanged (test Red gun with Blue controls, and vice versa.) 4. Prefix and suffix letters were deleted from CRT types, unless otherwise specified (e.g., MV13VAHP22 is tested as 13VAHP22 and 25BP22A is tested as 25BP22, A36JAR50X09 is tested as A36JAR50X, etc.) 5. CRTs with integral convergence assemblies, whose designation terminates with TC01 or TC02, instead of P22, are tested in the same manner (e.g., 19VDKTC01 are tested as 19VDKP22.) 6. Unless otherwise noted, test monochrome CRTs (includes green, amber, black & white CRTs, etc., as well as most projection CRTs) on the RED/B&W position. 7. For testing CRTs that are not listed in this SETUP Chart, you can contact the manufacturer of the CRT to get the pin-outs of the CRT gun, or ask for a match to a more common tube type with the same pin outs. Listed below are the major CRT manufacturers. Panasonic: (201) 392-4207 For computer monitors call (800) 726-2797 Hitachi: (800) 448-2244 Sony: (800) 236-1877 New Setup Charts with new tube listings will be published annually. -1- CONDENSED INSTRUCTIONS MODELS 467 AND 490 SIMPLIFIED TEST PROCEDURE 490B Users should refer to the instruction manual for Operation Instructions. CAUTION Do not apply power to the CRT chassis at any time during the test of any CRT. Completely discharge High Voltage Anode supply of CRT before connecting it to the CRT tester STEP 1: Set-Up Set all controls fully counterclockwise and G2 switch (upper left) to NORM. Find proper adapter and heater voltage in SET-UP chart. Select HTR RANGE. Plug in tube and power cord. Rotate FUNCTION switch to SET-UP . Adjust SET HTR to read specified HTR VOLTS. Set G1 voltage to 50 volts unless there is a * (asterisk) in the SET UP CHART (see General Notes). Check LEAKAGE lamps. Lamps will glow if leakage is excessive. H-K leakage cannot be repaired use isolation transformer. For G1-K leakage proceed to RESTORE-(A.) STEP 2: SET CUTOFF Rotate FUNCTION switch in SET CUTOFF position. Meter may read zero or slightly above or below zero. Adjust each G2 control to ADD ONE DIVISION to reading of corresponding meter. Use Red G2 control for black and white tubes. If max G2 does not raise pointer place G2 switch in HIGH position. STEP 3: TEST Rotate FUNCTION switch to TEST position. 1. EMISSION: If all guns read in good region, emission are OK. If any gun reads BAD, proceed to RESTORE-( C ). 2. TRACKING: Push and hold TRACKING button and adjust TRACKING control to set highest gun at SET TRACKING mark on meter. Tracking is OK if the other two guns read in yellow area. Release button to return to emission test. If tracking is bad, proceed to RESTORE-(B). 3. LIFE: Observe emission levels. Push and hold LIFE button until readings stabilize. The less emission drops, the longer the life expectancy. The stabilized readings should remain in the GOOD region to assure customer satisfaction. If any gun indicates BAD during LIFE test, proceed to RESTORE-(B). 4. FOCUS: Push FOCUS test button. FOCUS OK lamp will glow if connection is good. Open focus connection cannot be repaired. -2-
