Act
The 2-101 section of the Bernstein Act serves to promote the prevention of animal cruelty, fighting, and abuse. It requires that anyone who is found guilty of participating in animal fighting, cruelty, or abuse shall be subject to a fine of not more than $1,000 and/or a prison term of not more than six months. This section also prohibits the possession, breeding, and tying up of animals solely for the purpose of use in animal fighting. Finally, it requires the offender to pay restitution to animal care centers.
