complexes
HGS1069 is a component of the Coto complexes, a group of four complexes located in the north-western Iberian Peninsula. These complexes are represented by the impressive megalithic structures of Coto Cós and Coto Fornes and two other megalithic sites, Pesteiro and Donás.
HGS1069 is an impressive megalithic structure located in the northwest corner of the Coto Cós complex. It is a rectangular-shaped structure measuring 10 meters by 5.5 meters, enclosing an area of 45.5 square meters. The interior of the structure is divided into two unequal compartments, the east and the west, with different layouts. The east compartment is rectangular and consists of a series of small boulders arranged in a right-angle pattern, while the west compartment is semicircular and has a number of large boulders arranged in concentric circles forming a crescent-like shape. Together, the two compartments comprise a double enclosure.
HGS1069 is believed to be a ritual site, possibly used for ritual feasting. Excavations at the site have revealed traces of bonfires, as well as evidence of stone tools and pottery fragments, both of which hint at the possibility of ritual activities taking place at the site.
