AL8853 HIGH PERFORMANCE BOOST LED CONTROLLER Description Pin Assignments The AL8853 is a highly integrated and cost effective Light Emitting Diode (LED) controller. It provides a high performance LED backlight (Top View) solution with low BOM cost. The AL8853 contains a PWM boost driver which uses current mode VIN 1 8 PWM control and fixed frequency operation to regulate the LED current. The LED current is sensed through an external current sense resistor. GATE 2 7 OVP The voltage across the sensing resistor is compared with reference level of 200mV, the error is amplified to control the pulse width of the 3 GND 6 COMP power switch thus to regulate the current flowing the LED. CS 5 FB 4 The AL8853 offers PWM to analog dimming mode for a wide range of dimming control. SO-8 (Type TH2) The AL8853 has comprehensive protection features such as power MOSFET Over Current Protection (OCP), Output Over Voltage Applications Protection (OVP), Diode & Inductor short protection, LED cathode LCD TV short to GND protection, IC power supply Under Voltage Lockout LCD Monitor (UVLO), LED open protection, V short protection and Over OUT Flat Panel Display Temperature Protection (OTP). Constant Output Voltage Driver The AL8853 is available in the SO-8 (Type TH2) package.
