A 509K is part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Electronic Product Radiation Control (EPRC) program. The purpose of this program is to regulate the radiation emitted by certain consumer products, such as certain medical devices and retail products containing fluorescent light sources, including those offered by Eiko Lighting. As part of the EPRC program, manufacturers are required to obtain “certified” status before marketing their products in the United States. This certification is designed to protect consumers from harm by ensuring products properly limit their radiation emissions. The FDA assigns a unique Identification Number (509K) to a given product upon certification. This number can be used to determine if the product meets the requirements of the EPRC program. The 509K part of the Eiko Lighting is used to certify that the product meets the radiation emission limits specified by the FDA.
