’s and Bruck’s definition of clinical gerontology
05.04.151 states that “gerontological nurses assess the alterations, variations, and other challenges associated with the aging process, developing strategies to address age-related changes, promoting and preserving the independence of older adults, enhancing the quality of life for aging individuals, and providing for their safety.” This definition of clinical gerontology highlights the importance of nurses in providing care for older adults, who often face special medical needs and challenges. Specifically, gerontological nurses are responsible for assessing the changes that aging can cause and then utilizing strategies to help maintain independence and health, keep individuals safe, and improve quality of life.
