The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) is a set of regulations that govern the acquisition of goods and services for the federal government. The FAR consists of a hierarchical structure of statutes, executive orders, regulations, agency directives, and policies that provide guidance to acquirers on how to conduct acquisition procedures. FAR 2001, which was issued in 2001, is part of the FAR. FAR 2001 provides guidance on the conduct of acquisition transactions, including the applicable rules and procedures for establishing price, quality, and other contractual terms; evaluation and selection of sources of supply; contract award and administration; and contract dispute resolution. Additionally, FAR 2001 includes regulations issued under the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act of 1994, which focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of government procurement.
