Greenlee County, Arizona is located in the southeastern area of the state. It is bordered by Apache, Graham, and Cochise counties. Its county seat is Clifton. With an area of 3,003 square miles, Greenlee County is the third-smallest county in Arizona. Major geographical features in the county include the San Francisco and Gila rivers, White Mountains, Gila National Forest, and the Coronado National Forest. The population as of the 2020 census was 9,745. The economy is supported largely by the agricultural, energy, and manufacturing industries. Major employers in the county include Phelps Dodge Corporation, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and the U.S. Forest Service. Primary recreational opportunities include off-roading, fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking. The guest ranches offer horseback riding and trail rides. The area also offers a wide variety of wildlife and outdoor adventures.
