textbook
CWST224 is the third part of Hammond's textbook, "Organic Chemistry". It focuses on detailed discussions of the various principles of synthetic organic chemistry, such as the use of protecting groups, stereochemistry, and solvent effects. In addition, it covers more advanced topics such as retrosynthetic analysis (reverse synthesis), synthesis planning and multistep synthesis. Other topics include arsenic chemistry, biochemistry, carbohydrates, spectroscopy, and the uses of various reagents. The main focus of this section is how to apply these principles to the design of syntheses and to the troubleshooting of reaction problems.
