EARM-15 Igus

The EARM-15 (Edge-Aware Routing Method with 15-bit addresses) is a deterministic routing protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). It consists of two main components: the forwarding algorithm and the address assignment. The forwarding algorithm is based on the path-finding algorithm for edge-aware topology navigation. It determines the shortest path along a series of sensor nodes (called hops) between the source and a target. Given any two nodes in the network, the forwarding algorithm is capable to find the most energy-efficient route using a greedy algorithm. The address assignment is based on the node degree and the remaining energy levels. For a node to obtain an address, it needs to locate its neighbors and measure the remaining energy levels of each neighbor. Address assignment is done entirely on the local forwarding node. All the addresses are 15-bit long, so the address space is limited up to a certain number. EARM-15 is a deterministic routing protocol which guarantees that packets are delivered in a timely and reliable manner with minimal energy consumption. It also prevents congestion caused by routing loops, which may cause data sent to get lost or corrupt.
