EFSM-12 is a modular robotic system developed by the German company igus GmbH. It is designed to be easy to assemble and disassemble, making it suitable for two very different applications: 1) as an easy-to-transport and reconfigure mobile robot platform; and 2) as a stationary robotic manufacturing cell.
The EFSM-12 system consists of 12 modular components, which connect together and securely lock together with an interlocking, self-aligning mechanism. This means that any degree of complexity can be achieved within an extremely limited footprint.
These components include high-strength carbon reinforced flat plates for added rigidity, sturdy and yet lightweight LED-lit connecting rods and servomotors, ball bearings and flexible universal joints, high-resolution encoders, and motion controllers.
The EFSM-12 system can be used to easily create custom robotic arms and tool configurations and can be used in both low and high volume applications, making it particularly suitable for prototyping applications with a minimum of effort.
