The MOC3010, also referred to as the light-activated triac optocoupler, is designed by Isocom, a manufacturer of optoelectronics components. It is used as an interface between AC loads (e.g. lamps or motors) and the less complex digital circuitry found in switches and dimmers. The MOC3010 is composed of an infrared emitting diode, optically coupled to a four layer triac. This means that when a digital control signal is received, the diode will emit light which will then trigger the triac. This, in turn, will allow an AC current to pass through and actuate the load. The MOC3010 offers an isolation between the input and output and is designed to operate in damp, rough environments.
