Alali Formation
ZSM-29 is a member of the Jabal Alali Formation, a stratigraphic unit of the late Albian to Cenomanian age in northwestern Jordan. ZSM-29 is composed of sandstones, siltstones, and occasional mudstone and coal layers. The sediments are fossiliferous and have yielded diverse fauna and flora. The most abundant fossils are brachiopods and molluscs, as well as abundant giant clams, sea urchins, bryozoans, and sponges. Trace fossils, including burrows and trails, are also present in the sediments, indicating a shallow-marine environment. Fossils of foraminifera, ostracods, and algae, along with plant remains, provide paleoenvironmental information about the shallow-marine to coastal environment. The unit has a total thickness of approximately 140 m, ranging from deep marine to shallow marine.
