8764 is a United States Navy Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) based on the Freedom-class variant of the trimaran hull design. It is a multi-mission surface combatant that is fast and agile, providing the Navy with an affordable and capable warship for operations in shallow waters. Its mission includes countering threats from submarines, mines, and surface ships. It is equipped with a 57mm cannon, sensors, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)s and unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). It also includes a variety of smart networked sensors, computing systems and communications systems for sharing information with other warships. Additionally, its shallow draft allows it to operate in areas not accessible to larger surface combatants.
