1. Keystone Backend: Keystone is the main component of the OpenStack Identity service and provides an interface for users to authenticate, authorize and manage access to open cloud services. 2. Token Backend: Keystone uses token backends to store the authentication tokens which are distributed in response to user requests. It supports a variety of backends including Memcache, Redis, Mongo, and SQL. 3. Catalog Backend: Keystone stores its service catalog which provides information about the available OpenStack services in a catalog backend, initially just a static file but which can also be configured to use a variety of backends such as SQL. 4. Role Assignment System: Keystone supports role assignment to allow users to participate in different projects across the cloud environment and provide access control to specific services. 5. Certificate Authority: Keystone supports the use of SSL certificates for authentication, allowing for a more secure authentication and communication between users and services over the message bus. 6. Console Authentication: Keystone provides an optional additional layer of security for the OpenStack Dashboard & Console authentication using the core authentication technologies of the platform. 7. Token Revocation & Multi-Factor Authentication: Keystone provides a mechanism for revoking digital tokens and can be configured to support multi-factor authentication.
