The CH-8 section of the Kirkpatrick Sale’s Sustainable Systems (KSS) is focused on Community Involvement and Capacity Building. In order for any system to survive, thrive and meet its objectives, it will need to rely on the participation of local citizens, with their unique skills, resources and knowledge. This section is concerned with effectively managing and encouraging this community involvement, as well as developing capacity within the community so that it is better able to take advantage of the system's potential. It discusses the importance of identifying and connecting with all stakeholders, as well as how to keep these stakeholders engaged and interested in the system's progress. It also looks at the different methods, such as problem-solving workshops, that can be used to build the capacity of the community.
