LLB709 is an advanced course in the Lucas Lesson series. The course focuses on legal writing and document drafting, with a special emphasis on legal ethics. Students in the course will learn how to draft a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, wills and trusts, contracts, and memoranda of law. Students will also learn about professional responsibility and legal malpractice, as well as a variety of other ethical considerations unique to the legal profession. The course also explores the concept of legal “storytelling,” emphasizing the importance of telling a client’s story through documents and oral arguments. Finally, the course covers strategies for courtroom advocacy, including effective trial preparation and delivering persuasive presentations before a judge or jury.
