The MCP73831T-2ACI/OT by Microchip is an integrated circuit battery charger controller with supervisor. The IC manages the charging of Li-Ion and Li-Polymer cell batteries with a wide variety of charge ratings. It has input voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V and can work with charge currents up to 1.5 A. The controller features a USB and an AC/DC compensation, an input power path management optimizer, two level brownout protection, a pretimeout safety timer, and an internal voltage regulator. It can be used with unregulated or constant voltage sources, allowing the use of wall adapters, desktop computers, and notebook PCs. Furthermore, it can be used with a power source capable of up to 5 A peak charge current. The battery charge management is enhanced by the use of internal voltages and current monitoring circuitry. The supervisor with an auto-restart, trickle charge, and low battery charge thresholds ensure safe and optimum charging of the battery cells regardless of the application.
