The M5700 is a line of microcomputers designed by Microtran Corporation and launched in 1977 as an upgrade of the company’s earlier M5000 series. It was designed to run the IAS operating system, a variant of the earlier DOS/M operating system developed specifically for the M5700. The system featured an 8-bit 8086 processor and a flexible, modular design that allowed users to add additional peripherals and upgrade the machine's capabilities over time. It was available in many configurations, including single-user and multi-user systems, with options for memory expansion, hard drive and backup systems, graphics and communications capabilities. An integrated, comprehensive software package was also available for M5700 users, enabling task-oriented applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, and communications. The M5700 was popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and is remembered today as a capable and versatile machine for a variety of business and home computing tasks.
