III
The 5544S is a subpart of the Mk III Digital Signal Processor, a 16-bit digital signal processing computer designed and developed by NASA, released in the 1990s. The device is capable of accepting streaming data from multiple sensors and, with the help of the software, can be programmed to extract or amplify signals and create and send out commands to devices. In addition to the basic processing, the unit can also perform statistical analysis, display complex graphics, and provide advanced system control. The Mk III also has an integral analog/digital (A/D) converter, providing a simplified way to convert signals into digital form for further processing.
