project
The Newport Project, or BDT1 part of the project, is an initiative developed in 2001 by SRA International to address the barriers that limit global economic growth and development. The project has four objectives: (1) to promote economic growth in Myanmar through improved export competitiveness, (2) to reduce poverty by providing essential development services, (3) to build the capacity of governmental and non-governmental institutions, and (4) to encourage responsible environmental stewardship. To achieve these objectives a number of initiatives have been implemented including Capacity Building, Productive Sector Development, Technical Training and Education, and Economic Governance. The project has focused on activities such as agribusiness infrastructure, trade and investment promotion, access to finance, poverty reduction initiatives, and policy and legal reform.
