NPPW-T Ninigi

NPPW-T stands for Ninigi Program on Sustainable Population and the Environment (Tohoku Area). It is a long-term multi-scale research project that aims to develop and apply appropriate technologies for sustainable population and environment in the Tohoku Region of Japan. It integrates the activities from local communities to national governmental policies, intertwines them with social and natural science research, and explores innovative ways to achieve sustainable local populations, diversified economic activities and rich lives. By understanding the resource conditions, risk factors and social needs of particular regions and localities in the Tohoku Region, objective measures are sought to produce sound population and environment interaction (PPE) strategies. The NPPW-T project involves collaboration among researchers, local communities and government, with objectives to identify existing and potential sustainable activities and to develop, test and apply those activities within particular regions and localities in Tohoku.
