DATASHEET ISL78224 FN8988 Rev.0.00 4-Phase 12V/48V Bidirectional Synchronous PWM Controller Oct 10, 2018 The ISL78224 is a 4-phase, bidirectional, synchronous Features PWM controller designed to perform power conversion 4-phase bidirectional synchronous 12V to between 12V and 48V buses up to 3kW at >95% 48V controller conversion efficiency. One ISL78224 supports both Buck Master/slave architecture supports up to 4 ICs in parallel and Boost power conversion, enabling a compact and robust design with minimum components. Voltage and current regulation The ISL78224 regulates both voltage and current to Phase dropping facilitated with companion FET driver control power transfer from bus to bus. The multiphase 2% current monitor gain accuracy from 0 to full load architecture uses interleaved timing to support up to four parallel power stages per ISL78224. By interleaving the Supply and clock redundancy for functional safety power stages, the ripple frequency is multiplied, reducing Cycle-by-cycle peak current limiting input and output ripple voltage and current. Lower ripple Cycle-by-cycle negative current limiting results in fewer input/output capacitors and therefore lower component cost and smaller circuit Digitally programmable average current limit implementation. Analog and/or digital control of output voltage The IC is designed to be interleaved in a master/slave PMBus for status monitoring and fault response control architecture to be scalable for higher power. Integrated within the device is a dual-output Flyback controller that Selectable phase dropping and diode emulation for generates both a 12V supply for the power stage FET light-load efficiency improvement drivers and a 6V supply for the ISL78224 from either of Comprehensive protection with selectable hiccup or the two buses. A 200mA auxiliary linear regulator latch-off fault responses supplies a local microcontroller or interface devices. Digitally programmable warning and fault thresholds A PMBus interface provides system control and Dual-output Flyback controller diagnostics to support functional safety requirements. This digital interface offers the system controller the 200mA adjustable output linear regulator ability to program operating modes, voltage and current 10mmx10mm 64 Ld TQFP with exposed pad thermal limit warning and protection thresholds, individual fault interface response, and rapid fault condition detection.
