MSGEQ7 5/2011 Seven Band Graphic Equalizer Data Sheet Description Features The seven band graphic equalizer IC is a CMOS chip Low Power Consumption that divides the audio spectrum into seven bands, Only Two External Components 63Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6.25kHz and On Chip Ground Reference 16kHz. The seven frequencies are peak detected Switched - Capacitor Filters and multiplexed to the output to provide a DC repre- 3.3 or 5 volt Operation sentation of the amplitude of each band. No external 20 dB of Gain Typical components are needed to select the filter respons- On Chip Oscillator es. Only an off chip resistor and capacitor are Output Multiplexor needed to select the on chip clock oscillator fre- Variable Decay Time quency. The filter center frequencies track this fre- 8 Pin Package quency. Applications Other than coupling and decoupling capacitors, no other external components are needed. The chip Portable Stereos supply can be between 2.7 and 5.5 volts with 5 volts Car Stereos providing the best performance. The device has Hi-Fi Stereos very low quiescent current ( less than 1mA typical) Spectrum Analyzers for portable audio devices. The multiplexor is con- trolled by a reset and a strobe, permitting multi- plexor readout with only two pins. The multiplexor Absolute Maximum Ratings readout rate also controls the decay time (10% de- cay per read), so no external pins are needed for this Power Supply Voltage +6V function.
