The CD4040BM Ripple-Carry Binary (RCB) Counter IC from Texas Instruments is a CMOS 12-stage ripple-carry binary counter with the ability to synchronize parallel inputs (LD, B0) with rising edges of the clock (CK). The IC has a wide operating voltage range from 2V to 16V and a maximum operating frequency of 20 MHz. The CD4040BM contains MOS logic circuitry, an oscillator-divider input stage, and a 12-stage RCB counter stage. The RCB counter stage is reset by the RESET pin and advances in magnitude by one count when the CK input is low-to-high. The Carry-Out (CO) output, which is synchronized with the RCB counter, is low when the counter has overflowed from 11 to 0. The outputs of each stage of the RCB counter are available separately on Q0 to Q11 outputs. The CD4040BM is ideal for use in applications such as general-purpose counter circuitry, signal distribution, event counters, and frequency dividers.
