Yangjie 1 GBU 1008 is a 1,000 kW nuclear reactor core with a “safe, proven” design. This is a Generation III+ small modular reactor (SMR) developed using the China State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation's (SNPTC) Domestic Advanced Reactor (DAR) technology. The reactor core is designed to last an entire cycle of about 18 months and offers a high degree of process and safety automation. GBU 1008 is made up of several components, including fuel elements, instrumentation, control rods, and structural components. The fuel elements are enriched uranium oxide UO2 pellets that are encapsulated in stainless steel cladding. The instrumentation and control systems include safety systems, monitoring systems for various parameters like temperature and pressure, and other automated processes. The control rods, which have a negative reactivity coefficient, are used to control the neutron flux in the reactor core. Finally, the structural components include the inner pressure vessel and containment vessel, which provides structural support, stability, and shielding from radiation.
