It is a polymeric Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) that is designed to protect circuits against electrical transients, commonly known as “spikes” or “surges”. Its RoHS compliant, low-profile SMD design allows for circuit designs to be easily put into place due to its space saving design. GDTs are designed with two plates at the center of the device, with each plate held at different potentials by a spark gap between them.
