As of March 17, 2008, AMI Semiconductor, Inc. was acquired as a result of the acquisition of AMIS Holdings, Inc. by ON Semiconductor Corp. AMI Semiconductor Inc. designs and manufactures application specific integrated circuits, or ASICs, through three segments: mixed signal ASICs, foundry services, and digital ASICs. The mixed signal ASICs segment designs and manufactures system level mixed signal ASICs, which combine analog and digital functions on a single chip. These are used in sensors, high voltage outputs, and wireless or radio frequency communication. The foundry services segment provides semiconductor manufacturing services primarily to original equipment manufacturers and semiconductor companies. It targets the market for high-precision circuits for medical, consumer, automotive, and industrial applications. The company sells its products in North America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region through direct sales personnel, independent sales representatives, and licensed distributors. It faces competition from Atmel, Zarlink, STMicroelectronics, Altera, Atmel, and Xilinx. The company was formerly known as AMI Spinco, Inc. and changed its name to AMI Semiconductor Inc. in December 2000. The company was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Pocatello, Idaho.
