AOS 3 P is a part of the Fisheries Act that helps to document, monitor, and report the commercial, recreational, Indigenous, and subsistence catches of fish, shellfish, and amphibians in waters where these species live. The main aim of the program is to monitor and protect fish, shellfish, and amphibian populations. The three branches of AOS 3P are:
-Prerequisite requirements: This section of the program outlines the governance and management elements that need to be in place to ensure the sustainable and appropriate use of fisheries resources in Canada.
-Participation requirements: This section of the program outlines the requirements for harvesting, processing, storage and marketing of catch, and use of fishing gear.
-Performance requirements: This section of the program outlines the reporting and documentation requirements for fisheries stakeholders and outlines the monitoring and evaluation practices for assessing the impacts of fishing on fish and shellfish stocks.
