The SMAJ7.5C is a diode-based circuit protection device from Littelfuse. The device is used to protect circuits and equipment from damaging overvoltage transients, such as those caused by lightning, heavy motors, electrostatic discharge, and other sources of surges. It is also commonly used in telecommunications, industrial, automotive, and consumer electronics applications. The device consists of two separate current-limiting components: a metal-oxide varistor (MOV) and a fast-acting diode. The diode clamps the peak transient voltage to the reverse-bias breakdown voltage of the MOV and the MOV then helps dissipate the excess energy from the transient. The SMAJ7.5C offers 7.5A surge capability, a peak pulse power dissipation of 600W at 10/1000µs waveform, an avalanche rating of 36A, and a breakdown voltage of 5.4V.
