MBSR, or Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, is an eight-week program designed to help people cope with physical and psychological symptoms of stress. It involves mindful awareness practices, various physical activities, and group discussion and exercises. The goal is to help participants cultivate mindfulness—the ability to be present in the moment with awareness and acceptance. Through MBSR, participants learn to recognize and manage stress more effectively, and to cope with feelings of distress. Participants attend weekly group meetings and typically practice mindfulness exercises (such as body scans, seated meditation, and yoga) outside of the sessions.
