Datasheet ISL83386E 15kV ESD Protected, +3V to +5.5V, 1A, 250kbps, RS-232 Transmitters/Receivers with Separate Logic Supply The ISL83386E contains 3.0V to 5.5V powered Features RS-232 transmitters/receivers that meet ElA/TIA-232 V pin for compatibility with mixed voltage systems L and V.28/V.24 specifications, even at V =3.0V. CC ESD protection for RS-232 I/O pins to 15kV Targeted applications are PDAs, Palmtops, and cell (IEC61000) phones in which the low operational power consumption, and even lower standby power Low power, pin compatible upgrade for MAX3386E consumption is critical. Efficient on-chip charge-pumps, and SP3203E coupled with a manual power-down function reduces Single SHDN pin disables transmitters and the standby supply current to a 1A trickle. Small receivers footprint packaging and the use of small, low value capacitors ensures board space savings as well. Data Meets EIA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 specifications at rates greater than 250kbps are ensured at worst case 3V load conditions. On-chip charge pumps require only four external The ISL83386E features a V pin that adjusts the 0.1F capacitors at V = 3.3V L CC logic pin (see Pin Descriptions on page 3) output Receiver hysteresis for improved noise immunity levels and input thresholds to values compatible with Very low supply current: 300A the V powering the external logic (such as a CC UART). Ensured minimum data rate: 250kbps The single pin powerdown function (SHDN = 0) Wide power supply range: Single +3V to +5.5V disables all the receiver and transmitter outputs, while Low supply current in powerdown state: <1A shutting down the charge pump to minimize supply Pb-free available (RoHS compliant) current drain. Pb-free products employ special Pb-free material sets molding compounds/die attach materials and 100% matte tin plate termination finish, which are RoHS compliant and compatible with both SnPb and Pb-free soldering operations. Pb-free products are MSL classified at Pb-free peak reflow temperatures that meet or exceed the Pb-free requirements of IPC/JEDEC J STD-020C. 3.
