DATASHEET ISL9219 FN6606 Rev 2.00 Li-ion Battery Charger April 7, 2010 The ISL9219 is a fully integrated high input voltage Features single-cell Li-ion battery charger. This charger is fully in Complete Charger for Single-Cell Li-ion/Polymer Batteries compliance with the USB electrical specification. The charger performs the CC/CV charge function required by Integrated Pass Element and Current Sensor Li-ion batteries. The charger accepts an input voltage up to No External Blocking Diode Required 28V but is disabled when the input voltage exceeds the OVP Low Component Count and Cost threshold, typically 6V, to prevent excessive power dissipation. The 28V rating eliminates the overvoltage 0.7% Voltage Accuracy protection circuit required in a low input voltage charger. Programmable Charge Currents The fast charge current is programmable with an external 250A (Typ) Suspend Quiescent Current resistor, and the end-of-charge (EOC) current is fixed at USB 100mA/500mA Comply 50mA for any input source type. When the input power Charge Current Thermal Foldback for Thermal Protection source is identified as a USB port, the host controller will further identify the power type of the port and drive the USBI Trickle Charge for Fully Discharged Batteries pin accordingly. 28V Maximum Voltage for the Power Input When the battery voltage is lower than the pre-charge Charge Status Indication threshold, which is also programmable with an external Less than 1A Leakage Current Off the Battery when No resistor, the charger preconditions the battery with an 85mA Input Power Attached or Charger Disabled constant current.
