2007 Energy Independence and Security Act EISA
T he Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 was passed in December
of 2007 and addressesminimum efficiency standards and standby levels
for ClassA external power supplies that are 250watts and under. Thislaw
stipulates that external powersupplies manufactured on July 1, 2008 and
beyond meet certain minimum efficiency and standby criteria as defined
below.
MinimumEfficiency Criteria
Active mode is defined as when a power supplys input is connected to line
voltage AC and itsoutput isconnected to a DC orAC load drawing aportion
of the products power output. Depending on the power rating forthe power
supply, it must meet theminimum efficiency criteria outlined below.
Energy-Efficiency Criteria for Active Mode:

Thepower supply must also meeta requirement forwhen its input is
connected to aline voltage AC but its output is not connected to aload.
Depending onthe power output of thesupply , it must keep its energy
consumption below the following values.
