Battery Management family
BACC18AD3 is a battery charging solution integrated circuit (IC) developed by Texas Instruments. It contains various battery management functions for Lithium-Ion/Polymer batteries, including detection, protection, maintenance, and monitoring. The device protects the battery from excessive voltage, current, and temperature. It is a highly optimized charge state management device that supports multi-chemistry up to 8 series cells and up to 15 A of total charging current. It features an external battery temperature sensing capability to enable safe charging at high temperatures, programmable pre-charge/termination current, end-of-charge (EOC) based on battery voltage/temperature for better charging efficiency, and internal circuit protection for over temperature and over current. Additionally, it supports different charging conditions, such as constant voltage and constant current, as well as a user-defined charging profile. The device also has an integrated 4-bit ADC to measure battery voltage, allowing users to track the charge state of the battery. Additionally the BACC18AD3 includes an I2C/SMBus interface for direct communications from a system processor.
